We’re going down the pub!

In line with Government guidelines, we have been spending less time in the pub. That hasn’t stopped us working outside it, though.

As part of our CSR programme, we initiated a fence board printing project at the Crown pub, South Moreton, printing their logo onto alternate fence panels. The Crown is a community-owned pub and has seen a renaissance since village locals raised the money through a share issue to buy the property in 2019.

The fence around the car park at the back of the pub was badly damaged in the recent storms so a group of community volunteers was assembled to erect a new fence. An opportunity, we thought, to add the logo, providing visible continuity with the front entrance to the pub.

The fence is constructed from feather edge boards, and a slice of the image was printed onto boards, so that when put up in sequence they make up the logo for this fine establishment.

The printing project comprised two parts, overseen by Timbermark’s R&D department. These were the origination project, and then the print sequencing app for the Yeacode printer.

First the logo is sized and scaled to an appropriate aspect ratio, and then “chopped” into slices so that one logo corresponds to the print that appears on each board. Our App to do this handles the logo sizing and the generation of the board logos automatically, creating a folder with all the logos which make up the design.

Then the logos are queued and sequenced with a “Dynamic Logo” App, using the inkjet printer’s software protocol. Up to 5 designs can be sent at once, and for the Crown design this was repeated with a new set of logos to achieve a 10-up print.

The design, printing and construction work was all done on a volunteer basis, to support the Community in which we operate. The business rationale for the contribution was to test the ideas we have in the development pipeline, with potential applications for fencing, veg box or cladding projects. But it was just a bit of fun as well.

It was a great team building exercise – albeit not a very socially distanced one – and we were all very happy with the results.

One final point, the significance of “The Crown” may not be lost on those readers who are Spanish speakers – with the current Covid 19 outbreak, there isn’t much else to smile about nowadays.
